I tried apt-get install gnome-core but it brings up broken packages,
I'm running xfree 4.2 will KDE still break my system?

You're doing the right thing it seems, but you are using unofficial sources,
which will often have breakages here and there. You'll just have to deal
with them as the arise.

I live in the gong, run a business from home so, anytime that suits you

i have come across this problem a few times in the last year but never
really came up with a solution, usually just ended up using make config :(
so i hope someone else has had the same prob and found a solution.
the machine is a duron 1200mhz running an out of the box redhat 8.0
Thanks I have been playing with MNF there are some issues that I need to
over come, but other than that it seems to be a good product. What would
be a good feature for such a product is if it had some anti-spamming or
email content filter. :)

I have had a google and it seems that such thing does exist - but only
problem is that I cant find it... I have got the latest version of
ghostscript, and ps2tiff is not included in that.
Any ideas? Does anyone use this, and know where to find?? Or maybe just
know where to find it?
sorted the prob with menuconfig, it was the gcc (should have know) after
chasing up several dependent packages, however no joy with xconfig, but
no worries..at least one works i am happy, thanks Jeff

I think you will find that mod_throttle does this for apache. It certainly
does it per virtual server. You can also use it for controlling how much
bandwidth each virtual server uses, as the name suggests. You get a pretty
graphic read-out of usage.

with 1Gb of ECC/Registered memory. The CPUs are hyperthreading, meaning
they each show up as 2 CPUs in Linux, making there a total of 4 CPUs
