I attended the UT Grotto meeting last night which can be a trip in its own
right. Matt and Gary did a great job running the meeting. They had a most
excellent speaker (suave, debonair, and good looking to boot), probably the

I’ve been to the Nullarbor Plain and I can tell you there are no trees there
which is the derivation of the name Null – as in no and Arbor as in trees.
However, it is (was) a good place to look for meteorites as it is a flat
featureless limestone plain. Any dark colored rock on the surface is
example of public outreach
regarding caves and karst. Maybe having a state wide education meeting for the
general public and caves is something that a Texas caving organization should
do.

during the caving accident by removing some rocks at the entrance. This
lowered the water level a few inches which was enough to allow the recovery to

I know of two other issues with fire related to cavers.
There was a trip into Hidden River Cave Complex in Kentucky in the mid 80's

I wanted to thank everyone that attended Monica Ponce's presentation today at
noon at the Edwards Aquifer Authority. We had one of our largest turnouts of
any Brown Bag we've held and a number of cavers were in attendance. I think

Getting something caught in your rack such as hair, tissue, clothes, etc should
not be a major emergency. Escaping from this problem using your safety
ascender should be well practiced and relatively routine. Otherwise, a simple
mistake with an easy solution can result in that
