It is never easy in my experience. Extend ignore will be the answer, if there
is one. I tend to get the network shape correct first before trying to draw.
There are some scrap statements that can then mess it up. Subtle variations in
approach may make a big difference.

The C code allows for all the 'modes' to be used, except mode = 6 for boxed
labels and mode = 8 for filled labels. So looks like there needs to be changes
at that level.

if you want to label the pit, you should use point height and place
it near to the line pit (or line floor-step or chimney whatever).
ie completely independent input required by the user. A bit like how point
sink and point water-flow are intended to be used tother.
