I need help (don't we all!!??).
As a newer faculty member, one of the things I don't have a lot of
experience with is the generation of ideas for simple research projects
(for high schoolers, undergrad thesis, class projects, etc). I've
worked on big grants in another field for so long, that I

I would rather disappear in our vast tundra up here than see TIPS

Hi Matthew and TIPSters - I am excited about the efforts to make this
list! Many grad students also continue to struggle with having to
"defend" their field. I hope you will share any contributions you
receive off-list. There may be some good contributions in the

How refreshing (ditto to Gary)!! As most of you know, I've just survived
my first academic year as a new faculty. It's really nice to see,

An added issue to the equation is test banks. Given that we are torn in
so many directions, it is easy to understand why many instructors rely
heavily on test banks. Most test banks are composed of M/C questions
and focus on definitions and concepts. Every now and then,

Hi all - just wanted to share a quick and fun activity for sensation and
perception. In order to demonstrate self-adaptation in olfactory sense,
I took into class a few sets of the scented markers (you know, the ones
with the fruity smells). It worked really well and they enjoyed it
thoroughly.

Thanks for the tip. How quickly does adaptation occur with the fruity
markers?
Adaptation occurred VERY quickly - I had them rank their perception of
the intensity 1-20 after each sniff (intensity didn't go down quickly

Greetings!
I am a new faculty member this year and am in charge of building a
psychology lab from basically ground zero. I have a team of a few
industrious undergraduates helping out with this - they have been busy

I hope you will share any off-list responses you get. The one thing I

Hi again - I have a student doing research on teen suicide in America.
We have many "experts" up here in Alaska on Native teens, but she's very
interested in being referred to someone who does research in a less
specific context. Any suggestions where I can "send" her?
Thanks a bunch!

Hi all - I have a group of intro students interested in doing a project
on Narcolepsy.
1) I have a few references from by physio texts, but wondering if there
was anyone out there that had suggestions on more complete sources for
info on narcolepsy, cataplexy, use of dogs as a model, etc...
For those of you interested in the trepanning thread, here's another
case.

Hi all - I have run into a road block with my colleagues. I have
exhausted my vocabulary in explaining the difference between "biological
psyc," "physiological psyc," and "neuropsyc." I know some places use
them interchangeably and some actually offer a course in each of the 3.
