The ports on the ethernet switch are all the same. Plug any device into any port you like. Yes, you should be able to keep the same settings on the PC and existing Squeezebox. I don't recall if the steps to configure the Transporter's network configuration are the same, but it should be similar.

Let's try this: Using the remote, you have _exactly_ the same ability to turn off the Touch off that you had with the SB2/3. It's immediate. The music stops. You can set your off screensaver to display either a clock or completely turn off the screen. Consider the Touch interface to be a bonus.

I don't have an answer for a single one of your questions, but I'd try powering off (by physically pulling out the power plug) for several minutes, then powering back up. If that doesn't fix it, try doing a factory reset by holding in the reset button on the back of the unit for 15 seconds or so,

Try swiping left to right, which should take you to the Home menu and show the power button. I wouldn't think you'd want to disable all of the Now Playing screens except the album art one, since that means you also lose the ability to skip songs, pause, adjust volume, repeat, etc.
