My WD Passport Essential 320GB does not work. Seems to lack power. Spins
up, disconnects, then spins up again.

I've just been trying a couple of older WD Passport drives - a 160GB and
a 60GB. I did manage to get the 160GB to connect, scan and play music -
once. But after I rebooted the Touch the drive then went into what
looked like a continuous power up/down cycle - no matter what I did.
The 60 never work

The older I get, the less I like to fiddle around with and examine
technical specifications. i know it can't be avoided completely, but I
aim more and more for a 'toaster' mentality, where you just plug it in
and it works. My SB3 experience was very close to that at first, but
after some months
But sadly even some simple USB thumb drives do not work with Touch.
Maybe it is the fault of the USB device manufacturer, but that is of
little value to the 90% of USB device users (like myself) who know
nothing of USB specs and likely wouldn't understand them even if you
explained it to them.

Mickey, by his advice, just warned Logitech customers that some HDDs

Frankly, it's a non problem to me, and shouldn't be one to Logitech
either: I can't remember having seen anywher

AFAIK, the USB spec says it's 500 mA, and the Touch already allows up
to 750 mA.
You can't seriously ask Logit

Because the Use Case for the the device is to leverage a UDB drive or a
card. If the intent was to support USB drives and its possible and
common to have drives that require a li

Hey! I wrote that! :-(
But seriously ... a lot of USB drives don't have the USB certified
logo. (Note that the box for a lot of drives lately have a logo that
only resembles USB but aren't USB certified) These drives

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...
SB Touch Beta (wired) - TACT 2.2X (Linear PSU) + Good
Will the external drive work with any file format e.g. NTFS/fat32 ?

A good rule of thumb is this:
If the USB drive has a port for DC power, or ships with a weird
2-headed USB Y-cable, it requires more power than 1 USB port can
provide.
If the drive does not have a power port and just includes a single
cable, it is designed to follow the USB spec.
The drive I ha

I intend to use the touch with an external 2.5" drive connected only by

Is there was definitive list of what works ? I've checked the Wiki but
there are only a few listed. (Seem to be older models)
