I got it today, and I have to say: this is an amazing device! Setting it
up was a breeze. I connected it to my Home Theater system: a flagship
Pioneer receiver and Axiom speakers. I connected it to my network
through ethernet cable and it started to work right away.
I was able to connect it to my

Have a look at Squeezeplug as well which allows you to run the server on
a cheap (relatively) plug computer and use your nas for storage.

Yep, the touch is by far the cheapest part of the music collecting and
playing hobby for me. ;-)

Aubuti and Pascal: Thanks for your replies, detailed instructions and
your help.
I will initially try to use the SB Touch via my old macbook pro with
120 gb hard disk as a server and my D-Link DNS-321 as a storage. I hope
it will work. I will try this as soon as I get my SB Touch in the mail.

Or you could retire the D-Link NAS and get a decent NAS such as
ReadyNAS. This way you only have one machine running (and maintaining)
for LMS / music streaming. Have a look at the Ultra series. They are a
bit more expensive than the average NAS devices but they are packed
with great features. htt
Yes, the old machine has to be connected to the network. It can be wifi
or wired (ethernet).
My evolution of SB servers has been:
1) old surplus Dell running the server, accessing music library on a
LinkStation HG NAS. That lasted about 1-2 months before I got brave
enough for...

I assume
Not a problem. You can run LMS on the old machine that is sitting
around, and keep your music library on the NAS. LMS has no problem
accessing a music library on a network drive. That's exactly what my
first Squeezebox server set up looked like 6 years ago.

youll need to install Logitech media sever on your nas. not sure if its
easy on your particular nas. just google your model of nas + logitech
media server or squeezebox server. or take a look at the squeezebox
wiki, there should be a list there

I just ordered a new SB Touch. Very excited!! While I wait for it to
come in the mail, I was wondering if anybody knows from experience
whether it will work with my D-Link DNS-321 network attached storage
(NAS)? I have around 5000 tracks in my NAS and my laptop in apple
lossless ripped from my CDs
