Oh how very embarrassing. After all my bellowing, it seems the problem
was a device on my network that was periodically grabbing the IP
address that was being used by the Touch.
That of course explains everything!

Hi Alex,
when you say looking at the drive do you mean you have it shared across
the network and you are looking at it with another computer?
I would do two things at this point, look at the log file and see whats
going on. There are probably messages about what is going on in the log
file.
I'm also having this exact same stop/start repeating behaviour when
playing MP3 files from an attached USB stick. Doesn't matter if I
re-scan, eject reinsert/rescan whatever it's happening more and more
often now. Very disappointing, sorry to say I wouldn't buy one now if

replugged the usb drive and chceked in the advanced section to see if
the scan is complete and its tells you that it is.

I was logged into both my server and the touch at the same time when the
error happened again. Server was fine, Touch dropped the ssh
connection. From the logs the error is happening again and again. I
have swapped cables, network ports, gone direct into the router. Even

I am at work at the moment but will start playing tonight.
When I mean I am lookng at the drive its via the Touch disply where you
can actually see the list of folders on the USB drive, the top of the
display indicates SDA1 etc
I am not sharing or running with or in conjunction
Very frustrating first experience. Got all three scans done on external
poweredSB drive. 300 cd's FLAC.
Each song now plays for 30 seconds and then restarts.
I have NO idea why.

I did several things tonight over the last 4 hours and I think I am a
happy camper for the time being!
One of the issues I think I had was not fully understanding how the
Touch is setup in the multiple scans, how the menus flow, especially
when going thru My Music and selecting a
Some time ago I had my SS installed on general purpose NAS. I got
exactly the same behavior of SB Receiver as you describe in times when
the NAS was overloaded doing things other than streaming music. SS
stopped responding resulting in break during playback then restarting
