Just check to see if you have the following,
ls /media
cdrom cdrom0 floppy floppy0
The following are symlinks, cdrom floppy, they just point to the directories
ending in 0.
If there isn't a floppy/floppy0 just create them (as superuser) then see if you
can mount the floppy. My desktop is

HP printers are generally hassle free under Linux ;-)
Although I'm on Debian these days I had both my HP printers running
without issue under Ubuntu.

There may also be a BIOS setting to do this as well (mainly in older
notebooks) or try the function key for toggling the display, my Eee has
this capability so that you sent the video out is either to the internal
screen or to the external VGA or both.

have Gramps installed you can then copy that hidden directory into your
home directory. You will get a prompt to update the database for each
family tree you have.

I tend to agree with the suggestion to start afresh and go with a clean
install. When I updated my 8.10 to 9.04 due to the amount of stuff I
have on my desktop PC the upgrade was around 2Gb of downloaded data! as
compared to just 700Mb for the install CD.
Just make sure that you don't overwrite
a choice in what they want...
