Im using gutsy, used apt-get to install azureus and fixed this bug by
downloading the tar.bz file from sourcefordge, extracting it, and then
taking the Azureus2.jar from there and replacing my azureus2.jar
the only problem now is that it takes about 3 minutes for my azureus to
start when i cli

I've upgrade to Gutsy via the Gutsy RC, and I still have the problem of
azureus crashing immediately after starting. But if I delete the log
files, it works perfectly. I'm using sun's java, installed from the
repos. Azureus is also installed from the repos.

can now use VNC4Server without trouble and am using Sun Java 1.6.0_x
with no ill effects

I had a variety of azureus-related problems/crashes, and was able to fix
all of them by first manually installing the Java 6 JRE from the Sun
website (the default package seems to use a 32-bit version which doesn't
work correctly), switching from java-gcj to jre, and then replacing the
Azureus2.jar
I have also had this problem with Azureus in Gutsy.
Just posting to say that azureus_2.5.0.0repack1-0ubuntu1.1~proposed1_all.deb
seems to work fine for me.

I can confirm that the azureus_2.5.0.0repack1-0ubuntu1.1~proposed1 is
the only working version on gutsy.
I tried java 1.5 java 6 gcj and gij without success. deleting the log
files works almost till you try to open one torrent (double click) and
next startup it crashes again.

I can reproduce on gutsy.
Installing azureus_2.5.0.0repack1-0ubuntu1.1~proposed1 fixes this
problem on gutsy also. I have tested the proposed package continuously
for the last two months and the crash has not recurred (and azureus has
been shut down unsafely *many* times).

At this point it sounds like it is still unconfirmed what precise combination
causes this problem.
Options:
Compiler - people have said that upstream works, but as far as I can tell
no-one has tried a matching version (i.e. 2.5.0.0 upstre
Acutally, bug 78282 seems to be more like it in this case. However,
thanks for the clue on that one. The bug you reference pointed to that
one as a possible "duplicate" and that one had a solution I could
actually use in the meantime. Use the TightVNC server instead.
