The error text failed to allocate primary buffer: out of memory makes me
think this might be a kernel issue anyway.
Perhaps this bug started to affect you after a kernel upgrade (to 2.6.35-9 or
2.6.35.10).
You might want to try to boot with an older kernel (2.6.35-8 or older).
Also
After I installed Karmic, altough I do have a display, which is good,
the computer hanged a few times (after 10 to 20 minutes use everything stops).
I know this is not the place to
discuss this problem, but as David said he is using th HP2540p without
problem and I don't know how to get directly

Just hit this problem with kubuntu.
I tried completely removing all the nividia packages, rebooting, then
installing them again, and it still didn't work.
I've reverted to kernel 2.6.32-23, which works fine.

I installed the kernel 2.6.35-10-generic-pae #15 from the kernel PPA and
it mostly fixed my problem. I can boot up with modesetting, and X works
(using the intel driver). I can't unsuspend still (I get the blank
screen again).

I also have this problem and it persists in Lucid. However, I don't have
any mouse or other hardware problems. I'm using a usb mouse and
keyboard. Furthermore, I also use the propietary nvidia graphics
drivers.

The suggested workaround doesn't work, moving .compiz, .gnome2 or

The intel man page on 10.04 falsely refers to TV_FORMAT instead of

Been looking around my DSDT.dsl file and found that using
\_SB.PCI0.PEGP.VGA._OFF probably turns off my discrete graphics card.
After I run echo '\_SB.PCI0.PEGP.VGA._OFF' /proc/acpi/call the laptop runs
abit cooler, and the lspci -v gives me
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia
im guessing i had mine bugs witch are by apport selected as dubs of this one
started when i installed lubuntu-desktop from aptitude
hope i remmbered corretly and that it helps

I have no idea why I got this. I have removed myself from the

I don't think I ever had this kind of problem with synaptic. An
assertion failure implies that I have a copy of the source, which I do
not. Once upon a time I was an O/S programmer, but that was in the
1960-1980
Raul, just a clarification, my HP2540p has not arrived so, no, I am not
using Karmic without problems. My opinions purely theoretical...

After tested 2 kernels, result is the same. Both lucid (and maverick)

Sorry about the delayed response. I finally got a chance to test the
latest packages. I tested 2.6.34-020634rc5-generic both with and
without xorg-edgers.
Without xorg-edgers, the system booted really fast! Impressive.
However, when I tried to hibernate, the system immediately locked up
