We are running apache 2.2.6 on a Linux machine. We have enabledldap
authentication. I would like to allow users to authenticate to aparticular
directory either using a valid ldap userid from a list ofvalid userids or if
they are a member of a group that I have defined inan external file.

If I want to put Rewrite directives into specific sections, do I
have to put the RewriteEngine directive into each of the sections or can I put

there a way to save the userid and check it to make
sure that the user who is now working is the same user who logged in?
The problem is that users will be entering data and a user can only
change the data he has entered.

We had a similar problem altho I'm not sure if it was connected to an
upgrade. At any rate, we put the following lines into httpd.conf for
any directory that uses php: (The lines go insde the section
php_flag engine on

Includes or IncludesNoExec
IncludesNoExec is safer as it doesn't allow executables in shtml
files.
You also need :
AddType text/html .shtml

Apache displays the ldirectory contents if you set the Indexes option in
the Options directive that is part of the setting. So take
out Indexes and you will not get the listing.
You can also use the IndexIgnore directive to tell it exactly which
file types to ignore.
