Today, I have found that, using Windows XP and OOo 2.0 Beta, I cannot

I can only suggest that you check tools options writer (print) and make
sure that all the applicable box are ticked for what should be printed. I
believe that pdf export option uses this to determine what to export to pdf
as well.

Can't see why not. OOo remains to be a 32 bit application and XP '64 should
be compatible with 32 bit apps.
I personally run OOo1.9.125 on AMD Athalon 64bit chip (XPpro - 32 bit
version) and everything works fine...
