I own a few pair, but I could easily use a razor instead. Generally, I use
the edge to cut thread rather than snipping. About the only time I use the
scissors as a scissors is when I'm cutting hair or fur off a skin. I use a
razor blade when I'm shaping packed hair or foam. As to being designed
I have used surgical scissors. I also have an expensive German pair that
the seamstresses use. But my favorite one costs $1 at the swap meet here
(like a flea market) They are the squeeze type. They are quite sharp with
nice pointed tips. And when they go - well they served their purpose.
Oh, and I forgot. Add one more.

Dr. Slick
Has anybody insight into scissormaker? Are these instruments really
designed for tying, or are they selling surgical instruments as ff tools?
Rene
Anvil scissors are made specifically for fly tying. They're made in
by the Vogel brothers in their machine shop in Columbus, Indiana.
They are
Got 6 scissors or so. I bought my favorite pair 10 years ago from a fellow
tier at a show in Germany, and it is still going strong. The other one I use
most of the time is a tung.carbide scissors. Also have one pair of surgical
scissors I swapped with a surgeon for a dozen of sea trout flies.
My choice is Anvil Hands down.
I have about 20 pair and use the Anvil 99% of the time. They ground a special
pair for me at one of the Dealers shows in SLC some years ago.
Come to think of it, that was the year I met Don O and Jerry Goldsmith at that
show.
