Yes, there are quirks. It's best to type in a text field with QuickNav off. You
can toggle it by pressing the two side arrow keys simultaneously on the
keyboard. If you use a Braille display, turning QuickNav off doesn't seem to
affect any of its functions.

hearing loss very well. For that and other reasons, it's probably a go
