I believe that depends on your authentication method. it is my understanding that windows authentication uses it's own encryption, so the session encryption would be a different encryption. with vnc's encryption, I can't see any reason to establish a new encrypted channel, so I would assume it to

Got it! The key for me was 1) my misunderstanding of the /etc/services file function and 2) the location of the error logs The basic problem was one of my server arguments had 'wrapped' to a new line and was being read as its own parameter instead of a server arg. And of course that 'parameter'
