in service mode on a windows XP home. Fast user is off as is remote
connection.

most network admin won't allow vnc connection from outside your domain or
office. this is no no for them.
This would be a security breach.
If you
really need this, setup a vnc server in your front end if you like or allow
vnc connection to pass your firewall. From there you can vnc your workstat

I am running the latest version of VNC under win XP as a service. I am
connecting with the terminal server client from an Ubuntu Linux laptop. I

I am trying to connect to a remote PC using VNC 4.12. I receive an
error stating: Connection Failed. I don't even get a log on prompt

I've used the Real VNC Viewer before to connect to
dial-up (by just entering server's IP address) but
this doesn't work when I try to connect to someone
with Qwest DSL.
I'm thinking it's a port setting or that I have to
enter something in addition to the IP address to

AFAIK the only cure is to fix your copy of the source code, or find a

I've just done some testing with UltraVNC and noticed that it doesn't
appear to have a VNC authentication time-out - or at least not less
than 5 minutes. ;)
I'm wondering if RealVNC has a (default) time-out? And if anyone has
any insight into this particular function? I would think it would be
I "inherited" a system that is using VNC, the free program I think. I
need to know if VNC creates a log of all connection attempts and if so
how do I view that log.

Hi, I am trying to use the vnc.so xorg module. I can connect, and things
are fine, but when I disconnect the viewer, the XServer shuts down, with the

Can you send me that binaries for RealVNC 4.1.1 (for Linux) with OpenGL
support? It looks like compiling Xvnc in general is messy and OpenGL is more
complexity.

Okay, I figured this out. It was a bad path in my environment for
Solaris. So, running "vncconfig -nowin &" in my ~/.vnc/xstartup works
for Solaris (with olvwm) too, just like Linux (with gnome).

Okay, I'll ask our IT group to submit it to Red Hat, since this was seen
using RealVNC 4.1.1 with RHEL4 Gnome which we pay support for (from RH).
Note: so far, besides this warnings, it's been working great with RHEL4
and RHEL3.

I'm trying to get my home desktop (WindowsXP Home Edition) to connect to
two Linux servers that I manage at work that have VNC server running.
With my laptop from work (which runs WindowsXP Professional) I can
connect to the VNC server on either of the two Linux servers with no
