iPhone 3GS outright and unlocked from their retail stores. There's no
official press release, but a very long thread has emerged on
Whirlpool (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1228756)
in which numerous people

Hi Susan,
That would be good news. Might be able to get a new iPhone 3G S

Now that it looks like we'll be able to buy unlocked iPhones from
Apple real soon, I sense that this will be great but I don't know
enough to be sure.
For example - does a sim from a bog-standard Nokia work in
traditionally all resellers obtain the iphones through a relationship
with one of the carriers, with the news that apple will be selling
them outright there is hope that they will come down the channel due
to the lack of an apple store here in perth but there is no word on

Once you are connected and have your Skype window open, there are a
couple of little icons on the bottom, one of which is a little grey
video icon. You have to click on that to have video.

Perhaps also a video cam app such as PhotoBooth may have taken control
of the camera. Check if you can disable the camera in that app.

Evening,
In addition to Daniel's comment ensure the camera is working successfully with
PhotoBooth. If it does but you are still experiencing issues then I would
suggest resetting the PRAM. (Recommended as it is a common requirement in our

Thank you Reg, Daniel, Susan.
I checked all the buttons as directed.
When I next made contact my friend on the PC said his Skype had not
recognised changes he had made until he shut it down and rebooted it.
We are now in contact and also with one of my sons in Canberra. What
a great device.

Unless a reseller has a relationship with a carrier they cannot sell the
iPhone. Even then, they can only sell that particular carriers offering.

Yes, and unfortunately, we cannot buy the iPhone GS from the Apple
Store, at least its not an option on the online web page. So, it
seems, we are stuck with buying a locked version at carriers' prices.
