Hi Paul,
I'm working on quite a few client support emails at the same time, so I can
only get back to you when possible.
How did you upgrade to OS X 10.8, was it a 'clean install' or an 'upgrade' from
Lion?
Have you only used this external drive to backup OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion?
Or did it have

Hi Paul,
Just a quick question.
In System Preferences > Time Machine > Options - Do you have "Notify after old
backups are deleted" selected?
If so:
Unselect it, then Restart your Mac, then Connect the newly erased 1TB external
drive, and see if you receive "This backup is too large for the ba
Hi Ronni
Thanks very much for prompting me about this. I carefully noted all your
comments. I applied your recommendations regarding Safari as I feel this
potentially has some bearing on the peculiar behaviour of my system. I have

Hi All,
My Time Machine suddenly gave up. The message is:

The disk I am trying to backup has 453GB in use and 546GB free.

Thanks for your advice Daniel - I do now remember hearing of this
before, but a long time ago!
Thank you too again Ronni - please make sure you take the time to eat

Wow 18 seconds is fast. All is looking good so far!
If you can tomorrow let TM run its hourly backups, mainly to check that the
external drive is working properly as I mentioned previously.
First run in the morning TM will do a 'Daily Backup' which I'll explain more

Thanks Ronni, well I've been just about to buy one through the previous 2 or 3

'around the corner'. :)
It will be mid next year when my logical next opportunity presents itself
irrespective of if there's a new model
Hi Ronni
Thanks for that but none of those changed anything. I moved the.plist out and
then put it back, trashed the Cache.db file and I don't have any extensions but
I turned extensions OFF anyway. I quit Safari with Command Q each time

Hi Allen,
Safari preferences might be corrupted.
Quit Safari.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash. If not,
move it back to the
Hi Bill,
After TM does the first Complete Full backup it is best to keep it running for
a few hours to check that the hourly backups run fine, and that the external
drive is behaving properly... waking and not dropping connection.
I'll post tomorrow under another Subject how Time Machine works

I cannot customise the toolbar. When go to View and click on Customize Toolbar

this happened since I don't do it oft

Hi Glen,
Just some basics from my experience
You first need to load the music from the CD into iTunes. You don't drag the
music on the CD straight into the iPad. Then you can eject the CD from the
computer. Try playing the music in iTunes. Does that work?
When you sync the iPad, it 'should' sy
Hi Bill,
How long have the next hourly backups taken after the initial complete backup?
