Graeme, A gmail account will work well, avoids the issues associated with changing ISPs. The problem with names being taken already at yahoo, hotmail and gmail is a big one - those 3 providers together service more than 2 billion email addresses (12 mths ago, so more now) - so the choices are

I've always been deterred by the fact that they keep all your emails on record even if you delete them from your account. They claim that no-one ever reads them and it's just for their computer profiling systems to improve but what if a government like China demand access or refuse to do

Hi Brett, Are you using Apple Mail Address Book in Leopard or Snow Leopard? If so: You do need to put the individual addresses in Address Book. However you don't have to go through all the fields. I presume you have emails from these people in Mail. If so, you can select an email from each
