We use the record_ID to retrieve a record after an insert in the same run
through the TAF (think a scope of Local), but no where else.
For relationships we use Auto Entered serial numbers and carry them through
to the records in the related db. That way you can set up the same
relationships in FM

I didn't think that Tango returned the Record ID, but I just checked - and it does
I didn't know it was accessible from within Filemaker with a Status() command, though
it doesn't surprise me

Remind us what action it is that changes these internal IDs - are they changed by
compressing the file? They wil certainly be lost when exporting data to another
Filemaker file, won't they?

If you are referring to the RecordID that FileMaker creates for each record, it is
accessible with the function Status(CurrentRecordID) in FileMaker or -recid in CDML. I
don't know what it is in AppleScript, but you can get it there, too.
As far as "using", it's unique enough if you're dealing
As far as I know the internal database unique id is inaccessible from outside (or even
inside) Filemaker, so don't bother trying to use it
You can do serial numbers in variables, but I wouldn't recommend it. I'd use a Global
field in FM to store the current serial number (generated from whateve

Hi, I'm new to the list and wondered if anyone can help me with what I
think is quite a trivial problem - I just can't seem to get it to work.
I'm using witango on a Mac server linked to a filemaker database which is
used as a job booking system. What I would like to do is provide a job ID
