It was in my original response but I'll try to restate it in an
easier/detailed fashion.

You'll need to add a SEARCH action below the insert. In this new search
action, drag the serial number field into the 'Select Columns' box of the
'Select' tab. Then click on the 'Criteria' tab and drag the 'recordid' into
it. The operator will remain as '=' and for the 'Value' column, use
<@ACTIONRESULT NAME=nameofinsertactiongoeshere NUM=1>. An easy method of
getting this tag is to click in the value column, then hold down the Apple
key (I think, or it might be Option) and click to get a context sensitive
menu that will have 'Insert Meta Tag'. Select this, change the category
pull-down to 'Action Result Item', choose the name of the Insert action from
the 'Action' pull-down and enter '1' in the 'Item Number' field. This method
works anywhere you want to add <@ACTIONRESULT ...> tags as well as <@ARG
...> and current date, time, and timestamps tags.

To display the returned value, click on the 'Results HTML' attribute for the
search action and create your response page there. When you want to display
the serial number, use <@ROWS><@COLUMN
NAME='layout_0.nameofserialnumberfield'></@ROWS>. To make it easier, the
<@COLUMN ...> tag will be found at the top of the snippets pallet, inside
'Column Snippets' so you can drag it into the Results HTML window rather
than having to type it out.

Hope this helps,

Steve Smith
