Copper is copper as far as I know. Depending on what kind of router you'd 
end up using (which is determined by your provider), it may or may not 
provide a splitter, which would require any phones on that line to be 
wired from the router and not just plugged in anywhere.

I think there are several companies besides SWB offering ADSL already, 
but it's about the same price as a T1 last I checked.

(I personally don't understand how people claim that ADSL will be offered 
for < $100/month. It's a leased line; current leased lines cost way more 
than that. I don't see how the difference in line encoding could create 
that much of a price difference.)
