As someone who's crossed over to the dark side, let me put it in another way. If a client came to you without a requirements doc and asked for a quote to code it up, what would be the answer? The problem is not so much the law (unless a really curly question) but time figuring out the facts (as distinguished from subjective fictions) and mapping the possible solutions sets. Very time-consuming and unfortunately can be open-ended at times. Sometimes the bleeding obvious is not as intuitive as it appears. However, legal services is an area ripe for disintermediation as 80% of time is spent filling out forms ... but most of the value is knowing WHICH legal forms.
