Yes. Huge number of people were dieing of disease from bad milk in New York. Pasteurization stopped that. But that does not mean it was needed. The problem was the horrible conditions the cows were kept in, and many, or probably most, were diseased, and kept in extremely dirty conditions. They would take milk from a cow until it died, then sell it for meat. That was the real problem, and if they had cleaned up their act, the pasteurization would not have been necessary. Thus, if the cows are cared for properly, it is still not needed. There was actually a very good program on this on one of the Discovery channels a year or so ago.

There are a couple states where it was legal to purchase raw milk
from dairies. Many people purchase raw milk marked for
pet consumption only. Pasteurized milk has all the beneficial
enzymes killed out that helps you digest. The cows that are in
the commercial dairies have been given growth hormones,
vaccinations, GM grain and other things that many people want to
avoid in their lives. This is the reason people are fighting for
legalization and *choice*. Dianne

I did not know that raw milk was available anywhere in the
U.S. I thought that all milk had to be pastuerized.

            Dianne,
Can you please provide a link or more information on
this new law against raw milk in California? I am =n avid
consumer of it for myself and my dogs, and am now very
concerned. I have not read anything about this, so any
            info would be greatly appreciated.

There are more attacks on healthy products out there. California signed a bill that will make raw milk
unavailable. We have been working to get it legal and
it being available in California was a plus. This
will be a major set back.
GOVERNMENT "SNEAK ATTACK"
                ON CALIFORNIA RAW MILK

                Dear Chapter Leaders and Members,

With raw milk politics facing tough battles and having
some wonderful successes across the United States, raw
milk has just been dealt a serious blow and has been
made illegal in California as of January 1st 2008.
