Does anyone know about this detox purification program put out by the
Scientology Organization? Has anyone gone through it ?

===================================

I researched this method when writing my book on sauna therapy. For my
research, I read L. Ron Hubbard's book Clear Body, Clear Mind. I also
interviewed Dr. David Root. Dr. Root (a medical doctor) has not only
co-authored quite a number of clinical studies on the toxins that are
released when people sweat, but he supervises sweat programs at detox
centers based on what Hubbard wrote in his book, and has written about this
as well.

I also visited one of the detox centers that uses Hubbard's approach. In the
reception room, framed on a wall above the main desk, is a section of towel
from one of the participant's sauna sessions. The towel is largely black,
that's how much junk was excreted from the skin during a sauna session. The
center had the towel analyzed by a lab, which reported how many "heavy"
metals were released from the sweat.

Putting aside any personal feelings about Scientology, I found Hubbard's
sweat program's results to be sound. There are a few modifications I might
make if it were my program: for instance, I'd use specific-wavelength far
infrared saunas rather than typical "rock on heater" saunas. And, for
certain subjects, I'd lessen or eliminate the strenuous workouts before
having the people enter the sauna. However, in theory and practice, the
detox protocol as Hubbard originally conceived it is effective. The use of
certain supplements before and after sweating is important to the program's
success as well. I thought that Hubbard's observations about niacin were
frankly brilliant. You can either read Hubbard's book or my book on sauna
therapy for more information.

Interestingly, Hubbard developed this program with some people from the EPA.
This was decades ago. Hubbard's program, and his association with the EPA,
was reported in a well-known book on detoxification. I guess the publisher
got too much flak about the program being created by a Scientologist,
because in the next edition of the detox book any mention of Hubbard was
completely eliminated (though the authors still mentioned the protocol
itself).

The protocol is being used in several detox centers across the country,
including two in the New York City area to help firefighters and rescue
workers detox from the debris from 911. From what I have been told, it's
quite successful and people's health and lives have been saved. Two of my
friends who live downtown were clients at one of the centers and were helped
tremendously.

Heidrun Beer, I'd like to hear your experience with the program if you'd
like to share it.
