Dear Brita, Nina, and Terry,
So many interesting opinions! Of course the opinion I like the most is
Terry's because it makes my life easier. :o) I've only been doing the
seeding thing about a week since I read other people are doing it, and I was
happy with it. I only use maybe 5-10%, however, but even that seems to
really save some time.
My CS is always a clear color and always stays a clear color (well, I guess
the longest I have stored it is 1-1/2 or 2 mos., so I must admit I don't
know about after that). What I don't like about it though is (probably
because I turn the knob "slightly" higher than the recommended in-the-middle
range because I would like it to be a little stronger), I get some
occasional tiny silver flakes. Well, I don't want them. Period. Actually,
the directions did say that if you wanted to filter to clean the filters
with (I believe) CS a number of times (not just once). I was doing this.
Then I discovered unbleached ones, and I thought this would be a GOOD thing.
But now....mmmm. So maybe if I do the thing of using the unbleached ones
and then using the distilled water, which seems to be the most recommended
idea....???? Would paper napkins be better than the unbleached coffee
filters, do you think?
Is it really necessary to clean the jar so much? I always just rinse it and
wipe it. It's not dirty or anything, and I figure it was just CS
anyway.....as I said, it always turns out perfectly clear and stays that
way. I make mine any old time--morning, afternoon, night. I'm happy with
the color, I've just become insecure all of a sudden since reading these
warning things.
I have the Silvergen and I really like it, especially because it stirs
itself all the time. I really like that feature. I just want to make sure
I am making the best silver I can, especially since I was planning on giving
some to a couple of family members.
Thanks for all your input!
Valerie
