Be very careful what you say to anyone about an ex-employee.
I had a case many years ago in the UK where an employee left (I wasn't
sorry to see him leave). A short while later I had a phone call,
supposedly from a prospective employer but I have since had my doubts,
stating that this guy had applied for employment and what was my comment
on him as an employee. I was very non-commital in my response, but when
asked "Would you consider re-employing him?" I answered "No", but didn't
explain that it was contrary to corporate policy to re-employ former
employees.
Next I knew was a snotty letter from a lawyer threatening action for
slander and defamation.
Howard.
