Hi

07/03 is later than 10/01 because it is about dates. 07 month and 03 year is later and so newer that the 10 month and 01 year.

Joaquin

Stoyan,

thanks for your reply and info.
My uncertainy comes from the fact that when I asked my reseller about this in the UK he daid that the latest release of Solaris 8
is 7/03... which he subsequently sent to me, and that this release had the ppp 4.0 in it . He said this release was newer than 10/01 release.

So to check this out and to find what exactly is included in each release I went to the Sun site (been doing it all morning) but no real luck.
I'm still not sure whether the release I have includes PPP 4.0 Maybe I will check again for these packages as I didn't check the names of the actual packages
Just the application/software name and it was PPP not PPP 4.0 maybe PPP in this release has these new packages but I not so sure.

I checked the page you referenced but it does not explain what the numbering
A confusion is e.g. how can 7/03 be later than 10/01 but apparently it is?!

Thanks

mit freundlichen Grssen

hello,

to use PPPoE (PPP 4.0) with Solaris 8 you should have at least Solaris 8
10/01. the packeges are:
SUNWpppd - Solaris PPP device drivers
SUNWpppdu - Solaris PPP daemon and utilities
SUNWpppg - GNU utilities for PPP
SUNWpppdr - configuration files
SUNWpppgS - ANU source code
SUNWpppdt - PPPoE modules

you can not use Solaris 8 07/01 with PPPoE even if you install the PPPoE
Module.
here is the "what's new" document from sun for the 10/01 Solaris release
that mentiones PPP 4.0

here is also a good article that explains Solaris Releases:
http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/articles/solarisVersions.html

it is also a good idea to check Sun's http://docs.sun.com site that has
documentation for all the available releases and also includes "What's
new"/"Release Notes" documents for each release.

hope this helps

Stoyan
