While I'm not Richard, I've been told I can be a Rick.

Why do you want to double the fittings, controllers, sensing lines, etc. by
installing two pumps instead of one 2500 GPM pump?
Not sure about your part of the world, but 2500 GPM is not all that unusual
a pump size when protecting storage challenges today.
If you don't have the misc draws common to a large industrial plant, since
it's a factory and not a refinery/petrochem, are the draws for the pump
limited to FP ? If you're not planning on the cycling Richard mentioned in
large sites, I'm not sure of your logic in furnishing TWO pumps when ONE
would do- especially if you're not proviing redundancy, the largest reason I
could see to have multiple pumps.

The scenario you have presented don't look like there's a lot of high
exposure save the deluge. So we don't have to worry about adjacent
exposures, but it apears as if it is prudent to flow both the wet and the
deluge simultaneously? 300 hose vrs a more traditional 500 (more if there
are piles of combustibles in the yard) seems a little light. Ae there other
sources for large FD draws? For that matter, is there an FD with apparatus?

Subject: RE: Fire Pump Selection - Another Question

According to NFPA answer, you were right Richard, howeever NFPA answer was
short for item 3.
What I want to ask is simulating a real project like below:
Imagine in a factory I want to select fire pump for my below demand:
1- Total demand of deluge system: 1500 GPM
2- Total demand of wet pipe sprinkler system: 700 GPM
3- Total demand of hose streams: 300 GPM.

Total water demand: 2500 Gpm, Total pressure: 100 psi
For this project as my source of power is reliable, I want select TWO
parallel electric pumps with below specifications:

  Scenario 1: Two pumps( First: 1250Gpm ,100 Psi - Second: 1250 Gpm ,100Psi
)
  Scenario 2: Two pumps( First: 1500Gpm ,100 Psi - Second: 1000Gpm ,100Psi )
  Scenario 3: Two pumps( First: 1500Gpm ,100 Psi - Second: 1500Gpm ,100Psi )

As my deluge demand is 1500 GPM, so which scenario is the best for my
project?
Note that I want to select one of the above scenarios and don't have any
other options.
Would you also please analyze each item.
  Thanks,
  Reza
