No good experience with any of the
Chinese/Taiwanese components (but that doesn;t
mean that all of them are garbage - there's a
lot of stuff from the Far East circulating in the
Arabian Gulf - some of it clear knock-offs of
listed components.
Hong Kong Fire Services Department maintains a
listing of components and systems approved by
them and there are some locally made products
(hose reels, hose, valves and couplings to my
certain knowledge) which are listed. There may
now be some sprinkler heads and valves in that
system.
Mather and Platt (India) also make licensed
copies of some older UK sprinkler system
components and I am not aware of any problems
with these - they tend to be massively over
engineered.

Stewart
I was looking at UL Online Certification
Directory and I found some Chinese and Taiwanese
manufactures of UL listed sprinklers/alarm valve
systems. I have two questions:
Does anyone have good or bad experience with
"Genuine" Chinese UL listed products? Do you
know any good Chinese or Taiwanese companies?
Some Chinese and Taiwanese companies listed in
UL directory as sprinkler manufactures:
NANJING FIRE PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY CO LTD
ROUCHTEC INTERNATIONAL LIMITED
SHANGHAI JINDUN FIREFIGHTING SECURITY SERVICE CO LTD
CHANG DER FIRE PROTECTION CORP
PROTECTOR SPRINKLER INDUSTRIAL CO LTD
WEI HO FIRE EQUIPMENT CO LTD
Thanks,
Reza

There can be differences in quality among
products bearing UL labels, no matter who makes
them. American manufacturers have to compete on
both cost and quality. Offshore manufacturers
may feel they only have to compete on price.

Subject: Any trustworthy Chinese/Taiwanese UL
listed sprinkler/valve manufactures?
Dears Loren, Matthe & Ed,
Thanks for your comments, I concluded that when
a fire protection product is UL listed, it is
both safe and well functioned.
I was looking at UL Online Certification
Directory and I found some Chinese and Taiwanese
manufactures of UL listed sprinklers/alarm valve
systems. I have two questions:
1- If a sprinkler/valve is UL listed, does it
differ if it is Chinese or American from the
quality point of view? Do the genuine (not
talking about fake marking) Chinese UL listed
products have good quality and accepted in the
USA market?
2- Does anyone have good or bad experience with
"Genuine" Chinese UL listed products? Do you
know any good Chinese or Taiwanese companies?
Some Chinese and Taiwanese companies listed in

NANJING FIRE PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY CO LTD
ROUCHTEC INTERNATIONAL LIMITED

Subject: Difference between UL and FM standards
Hi all,
I know that Underwriter¢s Laboratories (UL) is a
product safety testing and certification
organization serves the insurance industry and
Factory Mutual (FM) is an insurance company
specializes in loss prevention services.
I know that Ul "list" items that meet their
minimum safety standards, I have heard that UL
listing doesn't deal with the operation of the
product, for example a UL listed heater only
means that the heater meets minimum safety
standards but the UL listing requirements
doesn't deal with the ability of the heater to
provide any heat!
Unlike UL, FM approval procedure looks not only
at the safety of the product, but it¢s ability
to function in the application. Their function
is to prevent losses, whether from safety
related issues or from product mis-application.
So a UL listed heater is a safe product but may
not be able to produce any heat but a FM
approved heater is a safe product and will
surely be able to produce heat, so I conclude
that FM is more comprehensive than UL, is it
right? If my theory is right, so why some
products are FM approved but not UL listed?
What is the difference between a UL listed
sprinkler/valve with a FM approved
sprinkler/valve? Which one is better? I think FM
approval is more difficult that UL listing, is
it right?
Thanks in advance,
Reza
