Hi, I have read tests carried out around 10 years ago on laminated and heat treated glass but I don't think they claimed anything like 1 hour.
The difficulties with normal glass is that it breaks due to differential temperature rather than the absolute temperature. So with standard window frames it is almost imposssible to fully wet the glass to keep the temperature distribution even across the pane. Or if the fire is small but close to the window the flame impingement on the glass can be sufficient to crack it. All I heard of is one particular type of glass (6 mm?) extremely well polished on all sides (how realistic in real life!) about 2 ft by 4 ft in aluminium frame about a foot of the ground etc with spray from both sides delivering 3 mm/min density ONCE passed a test. What is the various criteria (apart for some codes giving credit to it) of fire-rated glass partitions? Jack C Kilavuz Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail! Even then you have the wrinkle of MUST wet the ENTIRE glass surface. The WS sprinkler can be used where ever in accordance with its listing AND provides an equivalency for up to 2 hr rated construction.
