Roland, See NFPA-13, par 8.16.4.1.5, for heat tracing of branch lines. Can we heat trace 1-inch steel piping which supplies one dry pendent sprinkler which protects a loading dock area? The 1-inch piping is on the end of a "branch line" which penetrates the exterior wall, runs inside a boxed canopy over a loading area, and is used to supply one dry pendent sprinkler to protect the loading area. The exterior wall is constructed that using a dry sidewall sprinklers is not an option.
The older standards had a Formal Interpretation that did not allow heat tracing for branch lines, and I don't know if there is any heat tracing specifically listed for branch lines. rick matsuda, city of dallas -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Roland Huggins Sent: Monday, November 26, 2007 9:51 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Branch Lines / Cross Mains Other than creating some confusion on seismic requirements, what difference does it make? what exactly is being challenged? I must confess I haven't thought a lot about this.
