My two cents: 6" sch 40 wall thickness .289 (can be a little different from chart to chart.) Sdt cut groove depth .085 which leaves .204 wall about the same as 2.5" sch 40 wall thickness. Sch 10 - 6" std wall is .109. Cut groove sch 40 is almost twice the wall thickness of 6" sch 10.
In my view cut grooving would be the preferred method of installing sch 40 pipe. . . wall thickness equal time. The roll groove also generates a dam effect and contributes to pooling of condensate at the joint which provides ideal conditions for corrosion. Air + Water + Steel = Corrosion' MIC is a secondary source of corrosion in fire sprinkler systems there is always some form of corrosion first which sets up the condition for MIC to thrive.
