I don't recall when this system was installed but late eighties or
early nineties is likely. The building was one of several in an
industrial park all fed from the same loop. The system was one of two
in the building, both on the same feed, same manifold, & identical,
mirrored systems. In the late nineties the left side system developed
leaks in the first horizontal section of the schedule 10 bulk main.
This section was replaced and two years later developed leaks in this
new section. Since the original leaking pipe showed none of the
symptoms typically associated with MIC (except the leaks), and since
it was a full joint of pipe we assumed a bad seam weld. After the
replacement joint started leaking we suspected MIC. Testing was
inconclusive. No other pipe in the complex (as far as we know)
exhibited similar symptoms.
