This is from memory, concept right, details may not be: The Meridian Bank fire in Phila started on the 7th floor from spontaneous combustion of rags on a Saturday. Security guard responded, via elevator, and when it opened, he hit DOWN and hit the floor since there was a lot of red and black.
Fire continued up the building, I believe from exterior flames, some transfer thru concrete floors, and all of the Phila FD and numerous suburban companies could not stop the fire. I believe 4 Phila FF died in an attempt to vent the roof. When the fire reached the 33rd of 36 floors, it encountered a light hazard system installed in Comcast's offices, installed by Oliver Sprinkler, and that system did what all the manual firefighting efforts could not do- it stopped the fire. glc -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Russell Sent: Wednesday, February 11, 2009 11:33 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Another save I was walking by my tv the other day and heard snips of a report of a fire that started in a high rise type building and the fire started on the ground level and went from floor to floor and was stopped when it reached the sixth floor. That floor had a sprinkler system. Does anyone have any info on this? I didn't get any facts on it.
