Apparently the Chinese government issued an information blackout for
the fire that appears to have completely engulfed the 34-story
building this past Monday. The building is under construction and It
looks like the fire involved the entire structure from top to bottom.
The fire supposedly started on the roof and then very quickly spread
to all floors or at least so it seems before the information
blackout. A fire like this does not seem to be expected. There must
be some mitigating factors in the building design. Does anyone,
perhaps knowing someone at Arup, have any inside information on the
building's design? It seems there must be an important lesson in
building design to be learned here.
