If I recall correct your design height is 42' minimum. Doesn't matter much
if actual is 12'1" or 41'11". See '02 - 12.2.3.1.5.2 but don't see it in
other sections like rack in the '02. In '07 it's general so applies to all
12.1.3.4.1.

So like Steve said thinking in-rack is the only Code solution. ESFR out
because of the 62'. Clg. only out 'cuz I don't think any of the height
modifier charts go that high.

Sorry, storage hight is 24'-0 which would give me 130% per 14.2.4.3. My
concern is the 38'-0" of open space to the roof. What if the roof was
100ft. high?

This is another "Outside the scope of NFPA 13" Situations. Obviously input
from the sprinkler MFG.'s is good but they will be reluctant to take any
design responsibility for conditions not defined by NFPA 13, or confirmed by
testing. Time to hire a "Good" FPE.

Even if you just look at Fig. 14.2.4.3, you'll see for 35 foot height you'd
need over 200% design density if the graph even went that high. Then you
have the additional problem of delayed response for the ceiling height
outside of the scope. How do you allow for that? 2x or 3x the design area?
You may even be looking at something other than "Control Mode" protection.
Deluge? HE Foam? IR detection?

Time for professional help outside of the "proscriptive Standard".

Subject: Storage Sprinkler

Anyone know of a storage sprinkler to protect a 62'-0" high building with
solid pile Class 1 storage, stored to 36'-0"?
