On this topic... For you Google Earth users, there is an interesting plug in from CBS news monitor. It is based on data from the USGS. It shows red dots with date, time and magnitude for past quakes. The size of the quake determines the size of the dot. It can be eye opening to scroll around the US looking at the red dots in places you would never expect. Be aware, if you zoom to close to California, your entire screen turns red.
