Last summer we grouped up to four separately deeded apt buildings to a common NFPA 20 fire pump. Got letters from an NFPA 20 and an NFPA 13 committee member in support of the concept. This overcame the City's original objection.
The City DID require deed restrictions that negated a sale if the unit being sold off from common ownership hadn't had an appropriate water supply installed prior to the sale. Yes, I met the committee members at Convention.......might have furnished them a preemptive refreshment for just that type of moment. You are absolutely within the Committees' intent to supply multiple buildings and systems from one fire pump. As Chris points out, any nearby industrial complex could be held up as an example and may spare you having to track down letters if the AHJ has an "AHA!' moment when hearing the corollary. glc -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Chris Mak Sent: Saturday, June 20, 2009 7:15 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Fire Pump for Multiple Buildings Tel the AHJ to consider any industrial plant such as a steel mill or similar. Would he expect to see multiple pumps (and storage tanks) for each protected building? We have a steel mill around an hour south of us that has somewhere in the order of 50 to 100 sprinkler and deluge systems. Obviously, one water supply, with two reservoirs and two or three pumps. If your AHJ was right, the only people that would be happy would be the pump manufactures.
