This is probably obvious but you do know they go to a 12" deflector. If the condensing unit is thin enough? Any chance of move the condensing unit to a better location like along the wall with the sidewalls and add one underneath for the obstruction?
Also if this is Fed Govt where is the FPE? I thought they were required on all Govt work. If there is an FPE this isn't your problem to solve. I know you would still try to be helpful. I believe that one ss sidewall will flood that space and we would be fine, but alas, code doesn't say that. Because these are free standing, and there are only 2 that are adjacent, reason would dictate that only the heads in 2 coolers would ever go off at once. Calced out, we have plenty of water. Hence the sidewalls. The reason I am asking the question in this particular case is that the units are free standing outside and we DO know what they are storing in them. Pendents are out of the question per the owner - Fed Govt - and the Fire Chief is unsure of what he wants. He is trying to make a bad situation better and we are trying to do it correctly without going overboard. 2 of the coolers are side by side with a common wall so there is no way to put sidewalls on opposite sides of the wall even if we wanted to. They don't want pipe inside, EC heads will not meet the letter of the law due to the units inside. I was trying to get a feel for what others are seeing/doing in these cases.
