Are you trying to size a pond without having the hose stream allowance in it;
Size the pump smaller, without the hose allowance?

A pond, insofar as #22 is concerned, is not a tank. However, I'm just a lowly
former alternate on 22, and this hasn't been processed as an official NFPA
interpretation.

If you aren't feeding the UG and hydrants, or any interior hose, with what
comes out of your pump, then size if for the sprinkler demand.

Subject: Hose Allowance

I could have sworn that pumps taking suction from a pond qualified for
eliminating inside and outside hose allowance per NFPA 13 02’

11.2.3.1.3 An allowance for inside and outside hose shall not be required where
tanks supply
sprinklers only.
11.2.3.1.4 Where pumps taking suction from a private fire service main supply
sprinklers
only, the pump need not be sized to accommodate inside and outside hose. Such
hose allowance
shall be considered in evaluating the available water supplies.

Seems like it’s only private fire service mains and tanks. Can someone set me
straight?
