Well ,that's the way I read it BUT, it seems that this info would reside in the
same place or reference each other if it was that simple. I thought maybe the
30' rule was fragmented from a previous edition or something.

Also, I wish that it more clearly defined the 15' deal, spacing and density or
if you can prove the density could you expand the spacing outside the immediate
storage area? I don't think so, but I was asked the question.

Subject: RE: Table A.8.3.2.7

I'm going to take a stab at this...

It would seem that the 8.3.2.7 dictates the temperature of the sprinkler
would need to extend the distance shown in the Appendix table.

Section 11.2.1.2 dictates the density of the sprinkler needs to extend the
15 foot if the remote area is greater than the actual area protected then
the adjacent lower density would become the minimum for any sprinklers
within the remote area beyond that.

So a 20x20 wide high piled storage area surrounded by OHII warehouse would
need to provide the storage density to a minimum 35x35 area(20+15), but if
the sprinklers used were 286 for the high piled storage, then the higher
temperature sprinklers would need to extend to a minimum 50x50 (20+30
assuming a 2000 sq ft remote area) then the sprinklers could be changed to a
200 deg.

Right?

Subject: Table A.8.3.2.7

The table above does not seem to correspond with the text in the standard.
Assuming that the intent is to apply to any situation where you have storage
and that requires the use of 286 degree heads and no separation to another
non-storage area; this states that you have to use 286 deg heads for 30 feet
with a remote area of 2,000 sq ft.

How does this reconcile (or does it) with 11.2.1.2 which states the
protection for the higher hazard shall extend 15 feet?
