If above water we would have fire exposure concerns, I doubt UV is an big deal. 
 I am not sure if the multiple flex. couple recently suggested would provide 
enough flexibility for tidal issues.

The hose and all other piping is to be loacted above the water line.  With the 
braided rubber hose I'd be concerned with degradation due to temperature (range 
is 0F to 120F) and the fact that it will be dry most of the time.   Not sure 
about any issues with UV with the S.S. braided hoses.

The engineer quite likely means the use of high pressure steel braided rubber 
hose, or something similar.

We have approved high pressure steel braided rubber hose for these situations 
often, as long as they installation is such that the hose remain submerged.  
Not a whole lot of better options that we are aware of at this point.
