Brad, If the container is plugged and the top valve open, it is exposed to system pressure which could be anything from 10 to 50 psi. That plug would be under that pressure and pose a dangerous removal.

But with the top valve closed, there is no system pressure. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, July 13, 2010 10:35 AM To: Sprinklerforum; [email protected] Subject: Re: Drum Drip- why 2 valves? Limit the volume trapped when you pull the plug. WIth out it, it makes mess and can be dangerous if the system has high pressure for some reason. Why is the 'bottom' valve req'd? The 'top' valve is normally open-- close it, remove the plug, drain the drum, replace the plug, open the valve. Is there some practical reason for the bottom valve? _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://fireball.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field) _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://fireball.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field) _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://fireball.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field)
