If the top valve is closed and the only pressure to be released is in the drip
drum, is that enough volume that a second valve is needed? Would it be safe to
simply plug the bottom of the drip drum instead of using a plug and valve? (the
plug would only be removed when the top valve is closed)

Brad,

If the container is plugged and the top valve open, it is exposed to
system pressure which could be anything from 10 to 50 psi. That plug
would be under that pressure and pose a dangerous removal.

But with the top valve closed, there is no system pressure.

Limit the volume trapped when you pull the plug. WIth out it, it makes
mess
and can be dangerous if the system has high pressure for some reason.

Why is the 'bottom' valve req'd? The 'top' valve is normally open--
close
it, remove the plug, drain the drum, replace the plug, open the valve.

Is there some practical reason for the bottom valve?
