I have always taken it to mean pipe that has been damaged, or otherwise forced
out of position. Example: sidewall drop below the overhead door had been hit
by truck and is now out of alignment.

It seems as if you are right that "alignment" was removed in the 2008 edt. due
to it seeming to call for the inspector to be checking for installation errors,
i.e. improper pitch. From 2008 handbook: "Note that installation issues such
as piping pitch are not covered by the annual inspection required by 5.2.2."

Subject: RE: misalignment question 2

OK now the plot thickens, Does anyone know why this word was put in the code
and why it was taken out in the 2008 edition of NFPA 25? ( did it have anything
to do with appearing to refer to pitch of pipe?)

Subject: misalignment question

Would anyone please give an example of what a misalignment of the sprinkler
pipe would mean as far as nfpa 25 2002 edition 5.2.2.1 Thanks
