Waiting patiently too, but I do know 1) the reduction curve is based on height- the lower the ceiling the faster the heat travels across it so the faster the heads activate and the smaller the area of activation, so any 912 SF of heads at 10-6 will work. 2) the 4th parameter for QR Reduction is no unprotected ceiling pockets greater than 32 SF. If the 'atrium' is a protected ceiling pocket, I see what you mean by meeting all the requirements. It sounds like your main ceiling is 10-6, but contains a 'ceiling feature', that is protected.

I am waiting to see more responses; due to the number of responses so far either everyone is busy or they are waiting patiently too. Bobby Gillett Sr. Project Manager Key Fire Protection, Inc. Well, almost all the criteria. There is one small 'atrium' with a 23' ceiling height. The 'atrium' is only 6' x 11' and is protected by 1 sprinkler. Am I allowed to reduce the design area based on the 10'-6" ceiling height, or must I calculate a full 1,500 sf? Or more generically, how small must an area of higher ceiling be in order to ignore it when applying section 11.2.3.2.3? Opinions?
