Joel:

If it's a short run of 1-1/4, you might get lucky. Say less than 50 equivalent
feet. Your maximum volume demand (I'm guessing) is 0.15 x 900 sq.ft. = 135 gpm
+ overage. Maybe 165 gpm. You've got a relatively large amount of pressure.
Maybe you can get it to work; or maybe you can get a waiver on some or all of
the outside hose allowance. Many jurisdictions are willing to work with you if
it means avoiding the cost (short term and long term) of a pump and tank.

There is no minimum for fire protection lines if the calculations can support
it. Of course, if you have an authority that places maximum velocities on
pipes, then you'll have problems...

Subject: Design solution needed

I'm designing a system for a small restaurant, the kitchen is a OH-I occupancy,
and the dining area is a LH occupancy, the available static pressure is 106 psi
residual 62 psi with 751 gpm. My problem is that the incoming service is a 1¼",
and to bring in a larger service is very expensive because of utilities and
other obstruction that's in the way, the GC suggested that we put in a tank and
booster pump, to me it sounds crazy to install a tank and pump for a building
that's less than 4000 sq. ft. when you have available city pressure.

Any ideas how to go about this, please advise.

Best Regards,
