What's the purpose of the eggcrate panels?

Point is, if the eggcrate panels are for HVAC purposes and the space above the
ceiling is a supply or return air plenum space, then that can affect the
sprinkler or not to sprinkler decision. You don't typically put sprinklers
inside a plenum space. But if the eggcrate panels are just decorative and the
space above the ceiling is open to adjacent rooms or spaces then he MIGHT be
justified in asking for additional protection above the ceiling. He may be
seeing something or know something we don't on this side of the old computer
screen.

the room is a high school music room with 90 2X4 ceiling panels and only 16 of
them are
eggcrate panels. The 16 eggcrate 2X4 panels have a 40% opening per panel. We
have
pendants protecting the room but Fire Marshall thinks we need uprights.
